Lots of "news" flying around the web the past few days, and its only going to get louder out there as we get closer and closer to Apple making some announcement about something. The current news is that on the 27th we will find out that Apple is going to finally allow multitasking of application on the iPhone with a new software update for the 3G and the 3GS. This addition to the iPhone lineup would go a great deal of the way to quieting critics, and filling in one of the major feature gaps between the iPhone and new competitors, like the Nexus One.

Of course there is plenty of news flying around about the upcoming tablet, that I believe is coming, but refuse to guarantee a date, mostly because Apple will do what Apple will do, and that is usually like a house cat... whenever they damn well are good and ready. But, I would be remiss if I did not mention the ongoing speculation about the name. I stated earlier that I was not in love with the iSlate name, and when HP announced their "slate" in Las Vegas a few days ago, I was even more certain that slate would not be in the name. However, not sure if this is any better.

The name "iPad" may be a more likely choice for the Apple tablet, new information is thought to suggest. Just discovered in Canadian trademark databases is an application for the name by Slate Computing, well known as a front company for Apple. The application was originally submitted in July 2009, making it far more recent than ones for the name "iSlate," filed elsewhere around 2006 or 2007.
